HAUS DER GESCHICHTE
On Bare Skin

Exhibition & Book Design
The exhibition of the archive of Schiesser displays a collection of historical underwear from 1875 to the present day that has not previously been accessible to the public. In addition to underwear of Schiesser company in Radolfzell, swimwear from Wilhelm Bender Söhne is also displayed.
The studio is responsible for the visual identity of the exhibition with the 26-metre-long display case. Object texts on light strips and light boxes follow the overall typographic concept. Numbers in circles facilitate the classification of objects and object texts. In formal analogy to the catalogue, they become three-dimensional in the exhibition. The main motif of the exhibition in the stairwell and additional photographs serve as a guidance system for the visitor of the exhibition.

The appearance of the visual identity, the book and the communication combines significant photography with typography that bridges the gap between the eras.
Parallel with the exhibition the studio conceived and designed the Book accompanying the exhibition. The book offers a glimpse into almost two hundred years for historical development and provides insights about time, people, the body and technology in the textile sector. The introduction with scientific essays is followed by five chronological chapters, each of which begins with a photograph of an exhibit worn by a living person.

We wear the experience with underwear on our skin.
